🎄 Christmas Festival — Howlong

On Sunday 7 December 2025, Mermaidia Braids headed to the beautiful riverside town of Howlong to take part in the Howlong Christmas Festival, running from 2:00 pm through to 8:00 pm.

This event had all the ingredients of a classic country Christmas celebration — community spirit, families everywhere, local stalls, live entertainment and that unmistakable festive buzz that builds as the afternoon rolls into evening.

☀️ Weather

The afternoon started off warm and sunny, with clear skies and plenty of space for families to spread out on the grass. As the day moved toward evening, the light softened and the temperature became much more comfortable, making it perfect festival weather.

By sunset, the open oval setting really came into its own, with a relaxed twilight atmosphere settling over the event.

👥 Team

Michelle and Michael worked the event together, arriving early to set up the Mermaidia Braids marquee alongside Bubbles, who once again drew plenty of attention parked nearby.

From start to finish, it was a smooth and enjoyable day — steady, social, and filled with great conversations between braids.

🎪 Festival Atmosphere

The Howlong Christmas Festival had a lovely, laid-back feel. Stalls lined the oval, kids ran freely between activities, and families gathered to enjoy food, music and each other’s company.

As the afternoon went on, more people arrived, and the energy gradually built — especially once the sun started to dip and the evening crowd rolled in.

💬 Comments & Community

One of the highlights of the day was seeing groups of siblings and friends come through together, excitedly choosing colours and styles before heading back out to enjoy the festival.

There were lots of familiar faces, plenty of friendly chats, and that unmistakable small-town warmth where everyone looks out for one another. It was one of those events where people lingered, rather than rushing off — which always says a lot.

💇‍♀️ Braids & Ponytails

The braiding chairs stayed busy throughout the afternoon and evening. From classic festival braids to bright, bold colours and Christmas-inspired looks, there was no shortage of sparkle.

We saw plenty of kids proudly showing off their hair to family and friends — and a few adults sneaking in something fun as well.

The Howlong Christmas Festival was a beautiful way to round out the weekend — relaxed, welcoming and full of heart. It’s events like this that remind us why we love being part of regional communities and local celebrations.
