108. Wagga Wagga Speed Shear 2025
π Wagga Wagga Speed Shear β 22 November 2025
Mermaidia Braids Event #108
On 22 November 2025, Mermaidia Braids ticked off a very special milestone β our 108th event and our first-ever Speed Shear at the iconic Wagga Wagga Speed Shear.
After attending agricultural shows, festivals, fairs and community events across Victoria and NSW, stepping into the world of competitive shearing was something completely new for us β and we loved every minute of it.
βοΈ Weather
The day delivered classic Riverina conditions β warm, dry and full of sunshine. Perfect weather for an outdoor event, with plenty of people wandering through, soaking up the atmosphere and enjoying the action in the shearing ring.
π₯ Team
This event was very much a team effort.
Michelle brought her signature sparkle and creativity, showcasing colourful festival braids, extension ponytails and plenty of glittery magic. Michael handled setup, pack-down and all the behind-the-scenes support that keeps everything running smoothly.
As always, we worked side-by-side, taking in the experience together and enjoying the chance to do something completely different from our usual show circuit.
βοΈ The Event
The Wagga Wagga Speed Shear has a long and proud history, and being part of such a well-established event was incredibly special. The speed, skill and precision of the shearers were impressive to watch, and the crowd energy was fantastic throughout the day.
For us, this event felt more intimate and grounded β a strong connection to rural Australia and the traditions that underpin so many of the communities we visit on the road.
π¬ Comments & Connections
We met so many friendly locals and visitors, many of whom had never seen festival braids up close before. There was plenty of curiosity, great conversations, and lots of smiles β especially when people saw just how bold and colourful the braids could be.
Events like this remind us why we love what we do β connecting with people, sharing a bit of joy, and becoming part of each community, even if only for a day.
πββοΈ Braids & Sparkles
From vibrant purples to playful festival styles, the braids were flowing all day. Whether it was kids wanting something fun or adults embracing a bit of colour, the sparkles were definitely shining at Speed Shear.
π Final Thoughts
Attending our first Speed Shear was a refreshing change of pace and a reminder that Mermaidia Braids belongs just as much at grassroots rural events as it does at large agricultural shows.
Reaching 108 events is something weβre incredibly proud of β each one telling its own story, each one shaping our journey.
Thank you, Wagga Wagga, for welcoming us so warmly. This one will definitely stay with us.
